Exhibit runs until Sunday, December 9th, 2007

This exhibit is a collection of oil paintings, collage, woodcut prints and   handmade papers of images revolving around the axis of Lilith, the Hebrew Goddess/Demoness of Middle Eastern mythology and Jewish mysticism. The Talmud and Kabbala speak of Lilith as Adam’s first wife. They were created equally from the earth and placed together in Paradise. Lilith refused to obey Adam and escaped. It was then that God created Eve. To Liliana, Lilith represents the raw creative and free female spirit, which has guided her through the years weaving dreams, myths and nature into her life. Liliana illustrates the myth of Lilith through the creation of woodcuts on original handmade paper made from cedar barks, garlic stems, onionskins, seaweed, Arbutus leaves and corn leaves. The woodcuts were compiled into an artist's book created with other natural materials native to Galiano Island. Her original fine art book, The Song of Lilith will be exhibited and a limited edition published in Israel with the story in three languages (English, Spanish and Hebrew) will be available for purchase. Liliana will read in English, in Hebrew and in Spanish on separate evenings. Liliana has produced two art films, Lilith and the Tree and Tango D'Amour. She will screen Tango D’Amour and will teach an alternative tango class.

Pre-registration to the latter two events is required.

Liliana Kleiner was born in Argentina, raised in Israel and currently lives on Galiano Island, BC. She is multi-talented as a visual and performance artist, author, dancer and filmmaker. She opened, Tango Dos Mil, the first ever tango school on the West Coast in 1995 in Victoria. When Liliana teaches tango, she approaches it as an art form and cultural heritage. Liliana has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Jungian theory and dream analysis. Liliana has exhibited in galleries around the world, most recently in Montreal, Mexico, Israel and on the West Coast. The Song of Lilith, her first limited edition artist book is being launched in Vancouver at this exhibit opening.
